The Chirakkal caves, also known as the Burial Caves of Kattakambal (Katakampil), is a pre-historic burial site remains from the Iron age magalithic period. This site is notable for being quite different from the Kudakkal, Topikkal and Pathikal burial sites also found in Thrissur district. At the Kattakambal burial site, two subterranean circular chambers with four antechambers were excavated, each with a bench. Given the presence of animal artwork and undeciphered symbols, some scholars speculate that this rock-cut cave may have been inspired by an alternate purpose.

This site is best studied with the historic rock-cut chambers and caves of Eyyal and Chowannur – which all have benches and sophisticated floor plans.
