In kabuki, a kaomise 顔見世 (literally face showing) is a performance during which the actors introduce themselves and thank the audience for their patronage. Traditionally, this took place during the 11th lunar month after the actors had signed their annual contracts. Traditionally, actor name changes were also announced during kaomise performances.
