Description |
English: Scene from the New Testament (John 13, 1-20). Christ's and St. Peter's unusual position on the right side of the painting instead of the center can be explained as the painting was positioned on the right side of the altar. From this position Jesus is the main figure. Judas Iscariot is on the left, isolated from the other apostles. In the middle is the table of the supper where the apostles humorously take off their stockings. The work is influenced by Sebastiano Serlio's engraving La Scena Tragica, Secondo libro di prospective (Paris, 1545). In the right background is the last supper in another room. The painting shows two following events, pointing out to the other Tintoretto's painting Last Supper on the opposite side of the presbytery. |
