It is famous for its collection of wildlife featured in the Hebrew Bible, as well as its success in breeding endangered species. According to Dun and Bradstreet, the Biblical Zoo was the most popular tourist attraction in Israel from 2005 to 2007, and logged a record 738,000 visitors in 2009.

It has all the animals that are in the Jewish Bible and the Talmud books. The zoo was established in Jerusalem in 1940. It moved many times until it moved to a permanent location near the Givat Masua neighborhood in 1993. A new aquarium dedicated to the fishes of the Land of Israel is planned for the near future.
