English: J.H.S. 52, located at 630 Academy Street at the corner of Vermilyea Avenue in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1932 as P.S. 52, replacing an older school building, built in 1858, the first public school in the sparsely populated area. Both buildings stood together, with the old building called the "Annex", and connected to the main building by a bridge, until 1957, when the old building was torn down for a new building containing a gym and cafeteria. At some point, the building became J.H.S. (or I.S. 52), although the entrance still says "Public School 52". (Sources: [1], NYC GIS map and J.H.S. 052 Inwood page)
