Istana Kampong Glam (also Istana Kampong Gelam, or Kampong Glam Palace) at 85A Sultan Gate, Singapore 198501, was commissioned by Sultan Ali Iskandar Shah and built between 1836 and 1843, and is believed to have been designed by George Drumgoole Coleman based on its similarity to other buildings by Coleman. In a Palladian style with Malay motifs, it was constructed on the site of an original wooden building erected by Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor in 1819. The palace was used as a private residence by Sultan Hussein's descendants until 2004, when it became the Malay Heritage Centre. It was gazetted as a national monument with effect from 7 August 2015.
