The Mosque and Mausoleum of ash-Shaykh al-Akbar Muḥyī ad-Dīn ibn ʿArabī or al-Jāmiʿ as-Salīmī (Turkish: Şam Selimiye Camii) was quickly constructed by the Ottomans under Sultan Selim I as part of the Salimiyya Takiyya together with the imaret which faces it. After taking over Damascus in 1516, the Ottomans promoted Sufism. Ibn ʿArabī had died in 1240 in Damascus. The mosque was restored in 1947/8.
