IDEF originally stands for "Icam DEFinition", and is a family of modeling language in the field of software engineering, that were initiated in the 1970s and finished being developed in the 1980s and 1990s. These "definition languages" have become standard modeling techniques. They cover a range of uses from function modeling to information, simulation, object-oriented analysis and design and knowledge acquisition.
