English: The "Hyksos sphinxes" or "Tanite sphinxes" are a group of royal sphinxes depicting the pharaoh Amenemhat III (12th dynasty) with some unusual traits compared to conventional statuary, for example, prominent cheekbones and a thick mane instead of the traditional nemes headcloth. Seven of those sphinkes are known, all from Tanis. The name Hyksos sphinxes was given due to their uncommon looks and to the fact that these monuments were later repeatedly usurped (re-inscribed) by some Hyksos king.
