Hugh P. Baker was an American forester, silviculturist, educator and administrator during the early 20th century, working for the United States Bureau and Forestry Service for 10 years before beginning his subsequent career in academia. He served professorships of forestry at Iowa State, the New York State College of Forestry in Syracuse (now the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry), the Pennsylvania State University, and Massachusetts State College (now the University of Massachusetts Amherst). He went on to become the head of the New York State College of Forestry, and then president at Massachusetts State College, a position he would hold for 13 years.
