Pictures having to do with the history of the historical Ili region, i.e. the part of the Ili River basin east of the modern Kazakhstan/China border. The main cities there included Huiyuan (a.k.a. Manchu Kulja or New Kulja prior to its destruction in 1866), Suiding (also spelt Suidun; now Shuiding), and Ningyuan or Old Kuldja (now Yining).
