English: The building at 36 Saint Laurence Street was in usage as Franciscan church until August 2000. The Franciscan friary of Drogheda was founded c. 1240 but nothing is left of the medieval buildings. The friars bought in 1798 an already existing building at this location and converted into their church. This work begun in 1829 and a first mass could be celebrated in 1830. (See Patrick Conlan, Franciscan Ireland, p. 118.)
