Hersh & Brother hardware was established in 1872 by James N and Frank H Hersh at 804 Hamilton Street. It later moved to 829 Hamilton in February 1888 where it remained in business until April 1919. James N Hersh passed in 1908 and Frank H Hersh in 1915, after which the company was led by G Willis Hersh, Edgar E Hersh and Harvey Hersh, all sons of James N Hersh. In 1916, the Hersh family established a manufacturing plant for heating and ventilation systems. During World War I, the company received a contract from the United States Army for installing systems at Camp Crane. Due to additional contracts, the family closed the retail store. The manufacturing plant closed in 1925 and the company was dissolved.
