English: Hello Kitty was introduced to the American consumers in 1976, two years after "she" was created in Japan. Her popularity dramatically increased in the 1990s as Mariah Carey and other young stars expressed their fondness. In the United States, Hello Kitty products are sold at "Sanrio Boutiques" and at other shops that carry licensed Hello Kitty products, such as Toys "R" Us, Target, Walmart, Kohl's, Macy's, JC Penney, ABC Stores, and UCSB Bookstore. In addition, there are products that are customized for different regions, such as the Hello Kitty Statue of Liberty line in New York and Welcome to Las Vegas goods in Nevada. Hello Kitty appears at various shows and events, including the 74th Nisei Week Festival where she was the Grand Parade Marshall. The Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty exhibition opened October 11, 2014 at JANM, and the very first Hello Kitty Con was held on October 30 - November 2, 2014 at MOCA; both venues located in Los Angeles.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
