The Hatuniye Mosque is part of a comoplex (külliye) in Manisa. The complex was built in 1488 by Hüsnüşah Sultan, the wife of Beyazid II; It consisted of a mosque, a madrasa, an almshouse and a primary school. The Hatuniye Mosque is a simple mosque with a rectangular plan and a single minaret. The main space is covered with a large dome resting on an octagonal drum and a small dome on both sides. The narthex is covered with five small domes resting on six columns. Its minaret is decorated with zigzag cuts. Its pulpit, which was made with the false kundekari technique, is one of the most beautiful examples of Turkish decorative arts. The primary school, located in the western part of the mosque, has a rectangular plan and was built with brick beams and rough-cut stone knitting technique. The madrasa and almshouse sections of the complex, like many other works, have not survived since they were destroyed during the War of Independence. Source: Manisa Governorship. (2012).
