The hatomune dou (dō) (lit. “pigeon-breast cuirass”) are a Japanese (samurai) chest armor inspired by European peascod breastplate armour. Some hatomune dou (dō) were made from imported Portuguese armours, others were domestically manufactured to to look lke the European style. Hatomune dou (dō) are identified by the ventral crease in an okegawa or hatomune dô. They can be either smooth (single plate) construction, or lamellar.
