The house of John Butler Smith in Hillsborough, New Hampshire was originally built in 1866 and first occupied by Hiram Bell. Smith bought it in 1880 and had it rebuilt in 1891-92 to a design by Manchester architect William M. Butterfield. Smith was an industrialist who served as Governor of New Hampshire from 1893 and 1895. After his death the house was donated to the town. It was renamed the Community Building and houses the town offices and public library. It was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
