The Fox Film Corporation was an American motion picture production, distribution and exhibition company formed by William Fox in 1915. The company's first film studios were set up in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1917 Fox sent Sol M. Wurtzel to Hollywood, California, to oversee the studio's new West Coast production facilities. In 1926 the company bought the patents of the Movietone sound system for recording sound on to film. In 1930, Fox lost control of the company in a hostile takeover. The Fox Film Corporation was merged with Twentieth Century Pictures in 1935, to form 20th Century Fox.
