English: Located on a hilly promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, at the entrance to the Narrows of St. John’s harbour, there are three historic sites:
- Fort Amherst National Historic Site of Canada - a fort built by the British in 1777, of which there are no visible remains, now marked by a cairn;
- St. John's WWII Coastal Defences National Historic Site of Canada - the fortications where Canadian and American gun batteries and Canadian air force squadrons protected the harbour during the Second World War; and
- Fort Amherst Lighthouse - The first lighthouse in Newfoundland was built at Fort Amherst in 1810. The current lighthouse was built in 1951.
