Nuts, with an additional flange on one face.
This flange is often serrated, to act as a lock washer.
A common form for aircraft use is a 12-pointed (bi-hexagon) nut with a smooth flange, keeping the sharp corners of a conventional nut away from soft aluminium and the risk to stress concentration. The flange also protects the underlying metal from damage by assembly tools.
The flange may be either fixed or loose, as a captive washer.
