This firestop problem occurrs when each trade does their own firestopping: Plumbers, sheet metal, refrigeration, electricians, masonry contractors, drywallers, insulators, everybody. This does not result in code compliance because all the materials used in a penetration seal or joint must be compatible, as in tested together in a fire test and they must be chemically and physically compatible with one another during building operation, for the life of the building. Combination openings are unavoidable and make this practice of broken workscopes the source for inevitable building code violations.
