Eurilla, Mount Lofty was built in 1884 for Sir William and Lady Milne for use as a "summer home" so as to escape the heat of the Adelaide summer. The Adelaide Hills was frequented by English gentry in the summer months during the mid to late 1800's and many built large stately homes for use by them over the summer period. In approximately 1917, after the death of Lady Milne, Eurilla was bought by Sir Lavington Bonython and remained in the Bonython family for almost seventy years. The Ash Wednesday bush fires that devastated much of Victoria and the Adelaide Hills destroyed all but one of the stately homes at Mount Lofty including Eurilla. The home at the time of the bush fires was owned by Kym and Julie Bonython. They sold Eurilla in approximately 1987 after partly restoring the home.

The top floor of Eurilla was removed after the bush fires leaving the remaining ground floor and sub ground floor which was previously used as servants quarters. Most of the bedrooms were lost at that time and the grand staircase and stair "Hall" were removed and replaced with a master bedroom suite. It was to be twenty years before the current owners restored the home to its former glory and rebuilt the third storey and restored the stair case and stair hall.

Given the status of the previous owners, Eurilla has played host to royalty, governors, former prime ministers and senior members of the cabinet of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Many past and present artists and entertainers have also frequented Eurilla particularly during the period in which Kym and Julie Bonython were in residence.

Currently Eurilla is privately owned and the restoration of the property is on going.
