Italiano: In epoca messapica, nella seconda metà del IV sec. a.C., furono erette mura lunghe quasi due chilometri, che racchiudevano un'area di 140 ettari. Sel secolo successivo la cinta fu rafforzata con una seconda cortina e colmando lo spazio tra la vecchia e la nuova con pietrame e terra. All'estremità settentrionale della cinta si conserva in alzato un tratto quasi all'altezza originaria, che era di 8 metri: il cosiddetto Muraglione.
English: In the Messapian era, in the second half of the fourth century B.C., walls were erected almost two kilometers long, enclosing an area of 140 hectares. In the following century, the walls were strengthened with a second curtain and the space between the old and the new ones was filled with stones and earth. At the northern end of the wall, a section almost at its original height, which was 8 meters, is preserved in elevation: the so-called Muraglione.
