The East Tennessee bridge-burning conspiracy was an attempt by Union guerrillas to destroy a series of railroad bridges in Confederate-occupied East Tennessee at the outbreak of the American Civil War. Five of the nine target bridges were burned on the night of November 8, 1861, leading to mass arrests throughout the region.
