English: This category covers all monastic foundations in Ireland between the 5th century and the church reform in the 12th century which began with the synod of Ráth Breasail in 1111. Shortly afterwards Bishop Malachy supported Augustinian and Cistercian foundations. A significant number of the early Celtic sites in Ireland like Devenish Island or Cong were subsequently reused for new foundations. (See Aubrey Gwynn and R.
