English: Earl of Dunmore was a four-mast steel barque built 1891 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow (yard No 265), for Sailing Ship Earl of Dunmore Company Ltd (manager, J. D. Thomson), Glasgow. 1907 sold to Sailship Earl of Dunmore (John Malcolm), Glasgow. 1911 sold to Skibs A/S Spartan (Grefstad & Herlofson), Arendal, and was renamed Spartan. 1914 sold to Skibs A/S Spartan (Carl Bech & Co.) / until 1916 Bech's Rederi A/S(Carl Bech & Co.). 1917 sunk by the German submarine U 61 SW of Fastnet at 50°26'N, 10°45'W on voyage from New York to Birkenhead with a cargo of case oil.
Her dimensions were = length × beam × depth: 277.9 × 42.1 × 24.2 ft (84.7 × 12.8 × 7.3 m) and she had a tonnage of 2287 GRT and 2205 NRT. Rigged with double top and topgallant sails. ^[1][2]
