The Desert View Tower was built in 1922-23 by Bert Vaughn of San Diego, with the addition of a ground-floor extension in the 1950s. It is located at the end of In-Ko-Pah road, near Jacumba Hot Springs in Southern California. It sits above Interstate 8 and adjacent to remaining segments of Old U.S. Route 80 near the border between California and México. The grounds around the tower include a sculpture garden known as Boulder Park, including figures of animals and Native Americans carved from the indigenous rock by Merle Ratcliff in the early 1930s.
