English: The Defiance was a 93 foot propeller steamer built by Matthew McDowell at Tacoma in 1900, replacing the Dauntless on the Seattle-Tacoma-West Pass route. The name was changed to Kingston around 1913 and the ship was sold to the Whidb[e]y Island Transportation Co., serving Silverdale, Bainbridge Island, and other locations on the Kitsap Peninsula. The ship was converted to diesel power in 1933 for use as a fish hauler, but struck rocks at Whitestone Narrows on May 20 of that year. The Kingston, originally Defiance, was a complete loss.
