The De Dion-Bouton Vis-à-vis was an early light automobile. It was built between 1899 and 1904 under several model designations

Type D; 3½ HP 402 cc; steering lever, gear lever on stering column, break drums on differential and drive shaft; 1899-1901
Type E; 3½ HP 402 cc; steering wheel, long gear lever protrudes from chassis, rear brake drums; 1900
Type G, G1, G2; similar to E, but 4½ HP 499 cc engine; 1900-1902
Type L; similar to G, but 6 HP 700 cc engine; 1902

This category was named De Dion-Bouton Vis-à-vis because this is the only term that includes all models listed above. The vehicle today is recognized as a voiturette; back then this was a designation for a car model by Léon Bollée. De Dion-Bouton avoided the term, and used to call the Vis-à-vis and its predecessor, the Populaire, a petite voiture ("small car"). While it is best known as the "Vis-à-vis" (as most by far were styled this way), there were also some other body styles available, and some models were delivered with a removable passenger seat that could mounted vice-verso.

There was a slightly different chassis with a more conventional position for the driver at the front of the vehicle. It is known with the 3½ HP Type D, and 4½ HP Type G engine. Identified coachwork are a double phaeton sometimes dubbed "Siamese phaeton", and a delivery van. It seems that this vehicles did not carry a model designation of their own.
