English: The word confetti in Italy means not a multitude of pieces of paper or metallic material thrown at parades and celebrations, but a small sweet dragée. Italian confetti are almonds with a hard sugar coating. By tradition, the Italian confetti are given out at weddings and first communion (white coating), baptisms of a boy (azure coating), baptism of a girl (rose coating), engagement (green coating), silver wedding (silver coating), golden wedding (gold coating), or graduations (red coating), often wrapped in a small tulle bag to give as a favor to the guests. The Italian word for paper confetti is coriandoli.
