English: Clan Galbraith was a four-masted steel barque built in 1894 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow (yard No 347) for T. Dunlop & Sons (Queen Line), Glasgow. Sold 1910 to A/S Clan Galbraith (Carl Bech & Co.), Tvedestrand (Norway) and 1916 to Bech's Rederi A/S (Carl Bech & Co.), Tvedestrand. The barque ran aground near Shinnecock, Long Iceland in 1916 without damage and was again refloated. Sunk 1917 on voyage from Philadelphia with a cargo of lubrication oil and wax for Birkenhead by the German submarine U70 at 52°30'N and 14°W.
Dimensions: length × beam × depth = 282.8 × 40.3 × 24.5 ft (86.1 × 12.2 × 7.4 m) and tonnage 2149 GRT and 1983 NRT. Rigged with royal sails above double top- and topgallant sails. [1]
