The Chicago Times-Herald Expo Run was held 2 November, 1895, instead of the Chicago Times-Herald contest, which was postponed to 28 November, due to entrant's complaints concerning too short preparation time an inclement wheather. Hence, the Chicago Times-Herald Expo Run is also known as the Consolation Run. Only two cars entered, and the event is seen more as an additional event to the Contest rather than an individual race. This is manifested in the fact that not the earlier Chicago Times-Herald Expo Run but the Chicago Times-Herald Contest is officially considered as the first motor sport event in which vehicles with internal combustion engines were involved. The vehicles were provided by the Duryea brothers, and the founder of Mueller Water Products, Hironymus Mueller, and driven by his son. Oscar, who won.
