The Chester-Beatty Akbar-nāma or Second Akbar-nāma is an illustrated manuscript of the Akbar-nāma, the dynasty and reign history of the Mughal emperor Akbar, written by Abu 'l-Fazl. The manuscript was produced around 1600 at the Mughal court in Agra. The Chester-Beatty Akbar-nāma is also called the Second Akbar-nāma because it was written later than the First or Victoria and Albert Akbar-nāma.
- The first volume of the manuscript is in the British Library under the shelfmark Ms. Or. 12988 and contains 39 illustrations.
- The larger part of the manuscript, namely the second volume and part of the third volume with a total of 61 miniatures, are kept in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin under the shelfmark Ms In 0.3. Hence the name Chester-Beatty Akbar-nāma.
- Many folios are also dispersed in various museums and collections.
The manuscript is unfinished and only goes up to the year 1579. It is not known whether the rest of the book has been lost or whether it was ever completed.
- Many more images of the Chester Beatty Akbarnama are available locally on the German Wikipedia [1]
