English: Chamberlain Freedom Park in Brewer, Maine. This park was built on the site of the former John Holyoke House. John Holyoke was a noted abolitionist in the region and his house was part of the Underground Railroad. There is evidence of a secret tunnel that led from the house to the Penobscot River. The current park commemorates both John Holyoke and his role in the Underground Railroad, and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, a native of Brewer and the hero of the Little Round Top, the defense of which was crucial to the overall Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg.
