The Cariboo Country, generally called just "the Cariboo", is a large and very historic region of the Central Interior of British Columbia comprising the region east of the Fraser south from Hixon, British Columbia down to Lillooet, British Columbia, and west to the uplands flanking the west slope of the Cariboo Mountains. The southward limit varies in usage, though generally from the town of Clinton northeastwards to Bridge Lake but in some reckonings including the Bonaparte Plateau and basin south of that line up to and including the city of Kamloops and, on the south, the towns of Cache Creek and Ashcroft. Those areas and the rest of the adjoining Thompson River drainage and plateau comprise what is called the Category:Thompson Country. The area west of the Fraser other than the Lillooet area is called the Category:Chilcotin Country is often considered part of the Cariboo due to its inclusion in various government districts, e.g. the municipal-type Category:Cariboo Regional District, various federal and provincial electoral districts, forest regions and more.
