Wolf packs are generally made up of parents and their offspring. The alpha wolf, typically the father, us the leader of the pack. Even in the small packs at the GWDC there is an alpha and on an omega wolf. Chlebnik explained, "Dominance is determined by attitude," an obvious truth when abserving the River Valley Pack. / Sixty-five pound Akela is below overage in size, but above average in attitude. She is significantly smaller than her other pack member, but has proved to be the alpha. / In the wild, packs are continually shifting as pack member try to move their way up the hierarchy. In captivity their rank as well. Behavior among the GWDC wolves suggested a change in packs occur causing the Granite Pack to be formed. / One wolf was taken from each of the River Valley and High Country packs and introduced to on another in a private enclosure. The wolves connected, resulting in the Granite Pack. / ... "
