English: D9003 entered service with British Railways in February 1961 and was given the racehorse name Meld in July 1961. It was renumbered into the TOPS series as 55003 in February 1974 and withdrawn on 31 December 1981. Preserved classmate D9000 carried the name and number of 55003 Meld for a while.
