English: D3998 entered service with British Railways in November 1960 and was renumbered into the TOPS series as 08830 in December 1973. At privatisation it became part of the Cardiff Railways fleet but between 1996 and 1999 it was on hire at Cranmore and Merehead in Somerset. Since then it has operated at several other industrial and preservation sites.
