The Olympia Building opened on 18 September 1911 as the "Olympia Theatre of Varieties". In 1938 it was redeveloped by the ABC cinema chain in an Art Deco style. The cinema closed in 1974 and it later was used as a bingo hall then a furniture shop before closing in 2000. It was burnt in a major fire in 2004. In 2012 it was rebuilt to house Bridgeton Library on the ground floor, a boxing gym on the first floor and offices on the upper floors.
