English: Bennelong Point Parking Station is a 12 story car park designed by Dr Philip Pells and built for the Sydney Opera House. The car park is built in a "donut shaped" double-helix structure (Newton, 2018) that extends 28 metres underground. (Pells, n.d.) According to Pells, the double-helix structure was designed after the original plan became infeasible due to legislation around fire exits. Using a double helix structure, the car park could effectively fit 12 stories of cars into a 6 story building.(Newton, 2018) The car park has two main vehicle entry and exit tunnels, a main pedestrian concourse which links directly to the Sydney Opera House, four vehicle tunnels through the core of the "doughnut", and has two air supply tunnels and two air exhaust tunnels. (Pells, n.d.)
