The crossing was known as Pottawatommie Ford {sic} and adjacent next to the Collier Lodge building. The crossing became Eaton's Ferry, Eaton's Bridge and after the bridge burned, it was sold to Baum and revereted to a ferry until the bridge was built. The Channeling of the Kankakee, moved the 'crossing' from the Collier Lodge to the 'Marble Ditch', 940 feet (290 m) south.
