Baijnath, also referred to as Katyur in Sanskrit texts, is a historic town midst the Kumaon hills, Uttarakhand. A prosperous Himalayan trade hub on the banks of Gomti and Saryu rivers, it became the new capital of the Hindu Katyuri dynasty when they moved here in late 10th century. The town is home to several groups of Hindu temples.
