English: The Bai (牌) was an insignia of rank, but are often included as an example of a decoration because they were seen as a "badge of prestige." The Bai take their shape from the tablets borne by the Chinese mandarins. Both gold and ivory Bai existed. Ivory Bai were worn for regular daily usage within the palace grounds at Huế.
