Fourth illustrated Baburnama created under Akbar I, dated 1596-97, in the National Museum, New Delhi.

  • "Of the four extant illustrated copies of the manuscript produced during the reign of Akbar, the earliest is the very volume given to Akbar. Twenty-one of its folios are in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and at least eighty-seven others are extant out of the original 191 illustrations from the manuscript. The three folios published here come from the copy of the manuscript c. 1589. Three other illustrated versions were produced in the 1590s: one from about 1591 is in the British Library, London, containing 148 of the original 183 illustrations; a slightly later version of about 1593 is shared between the State Museum of Eastern Cultures in Moscow and the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, with a few stray leaves; and a more nearly complete volume in the National Museum, New Delhi, has the date 1596-7 in a marginal note." in PRINCES, POETS & PALADINS Islamic and Indian paintings from the collection of Prince and Princess Sadruddin Aga Khan, by Sheila R. Canby, British Museum Press, 1998, p.113 article 82-4
