This Elim Pentecostal church opened in 1909 as the Herridge Memorial Primitive Methodist Church, commemorating Primitive Methodist minister James Herridge (1824–1905) and his wife, who died in 1909. Methodists ceased using it in 1957, and it was re-registered as an Elim Pentecostal Church in April 1957, replacing the former Elim Tabernacle nearby which had been used since the 1920s.
