The B.F. Day Elementary School is located in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. Designed by John Parkinson and built in 1892, it was named for local residents Benjamin Franklin and wife Frances Day, who donated land for the school as well as helping pay rent for earlier classroom locations around town. The school was doubled in size in 1900 under the direction of SPD architect James Stephens with further additions made in 1915 by his successor Edgar Blair making it one of the largest buildings in the school district. It is the oldest continually operating school in Seattle.
