English: The British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company — the Cunard Line — had two new ships launched early in 1850, Asia and Africa. They were nearly identical in design and construction. Asia was launched first, in January 1850, and left Liverpool on Saturday, 18 May 1850, on her first crossing of the North Atlantic.
