English: Ariel was a composite-hulled extreme clipper built in 1865 by Robert Steele & Co, Greenock. Dimensions: 197'4×33'9"×21'. Tonnages 1,058 GRT, 853 NRT. She had 100 tons of fixed iron ballast moulded into the limbers. She had a rig with double top-sails and main skysail. 1872 posted missing outward bound for China[1][2]
