English: The named Archaeological Site of Itanos is located south of Erimoupolis Beach, north of Itanos Beach, on the east side of the Itanos promontory, which is the base of Cape Sidero. This is the site of the classical and Hellenistic Doric Greek city named Itanos. Only the public buildings on and around the acropolis are left. There was a harbor, now filled in. The living city must have had a greater extent to include residential areas, business districts, and so on. There are no Bronze Age remains here. The Minoan habitations were elsewhere on the promontory; namely, Palekastro.
