English: The American Museum of Natural History is located in New York City's Theodore Roosevelt Park, on Central Park West between West 77th and West 81st Streets in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The museum collections contain over 32 million specimens of plants, humans, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts, of which only a small fraction can be displayed at any given time, and occupies 1,600,000 square feet.
The building was built in 1874-77 and was designed by Vaux & Mould in the High Victorian Gothic style. It was expanded several times in the late 19th and 20th centuries in various styles. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1967, and the interior in 1975, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
